Join MSD on an exciting journey to support our mass spectrometry (MS) capabilities within the Target & Pathway Biology group (Singapore). We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Scientist to join our research team. The successful candidate will provide technical support and expertise in LC-MS and/or MALDI-MS Imaging-based OMICs technologies to support various pipeline projects in basic, translational, and clinical sciences across a diverse range of mass spectrometry (MS)-related applications in proteomics, lipidomics, and small molecule quantitation.
What will you do:
• With supervision be able to support, learn and operate mass spectrometry related activities including assay development, optimization, and mass spectrometer maintenance.
• Assist scientists with in vitro / in vivo / clinical tissue sample preparation for spatial data acquisition by MALDI-MS Imaging workflows and LC-MS based proteomics or metabolomics applications.
• With guidance from senior scientists, employ statistical, bioinformatics and data visualization tools to analyze and interpret LC-MS and MALDI-MS Imaging omics datasets.
• Contribute to and implement the Target and Pathway Biology group and the overall Quantitative Biosciences research strategy aligned with MRL’s drug discovery approaches and organizational objectives.
• Retain an up-to-date knowledge of the key therapeutic area biology, analytical techniques and equipment and carry out literature searches and provide reviews as required in support of priority projects with good communication skills.
• Work collaboratively on MSD research projects with matrix teams within the department and other cross functional teams at MRL to enable the scientific advancement of projects under scientific and administrative direction.
• Assist the group in inventory management, documentations for health and safety, biological materials, risk assessments, management of change documentation, international shipping and capital equipment purchases and maintenance.
• Ensure reliable documentation of experiments and results in electronic notebooks and other documents in compliance with company policies and project needs. Identify the need for and ensure the implementation of risk assessments and SOPs as appropriate.
• Proactively plan and execute own career development strategy with help of manager to advance technical and functional knowledge to design experiments/projects that contribute to overall direction of department/discipline.
• Demonstrate consistent leadership behaviors. Ensure all activities comply with appropriate health and safety legislation, company codes of practice and local rules. Promote a culture of safety and compliance among reports and colleagues.
Requirements
Qualification:
MSc or BSc in Analytical Sciences/Chemistry/Bioinformatics or related discipline including Cell Biology/Biochemistry/Biotechnology with at least three years of relevant research experience with good track record.
Experience:
-Hands-on experience with LC-MS-based omics technologies
-Sample preparation techniques, preferably in the areas of proteomics or metabolomics.
-Expertise in tissue histology, and/or bioinformatics is desired.
-Programming experience with Python or R would be a plus.
-A team player with excellent interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills are a must.
-Have a positive, proactive, can-do attitude.
