About the job

We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist/Research Fellow to join a multidisciplinary Pharma–Academia Joint Research Programme, focus on the discovery and development of next-generation therapeutic biologics and small molecules for ocular diseases. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface of protein engineering, computational design, functional assays, and translational proteomics, within a highly collaborative environment bridging academic innovation and pharmaceutical development.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct affinity maturation and enzyme engineering using integrated dry-lab (in silico) and in vitro approaches

  • Design and execute selection strategies, including assay development, to support lead asset characterization, prioritization, and optimization

  • Perform and analyse protein–protein binding and enzyme kinetics data to guide iterative optimization cycles

  • Transitioning to lead proteomics-driven experiments to identify novel targets, and validate therapeutic mechanisms and assess drug targetability

  • Contribute to the advancement of lead biologics and small-molecule assets toward preclinical development.

  • Train junior researchers and students.

  • Work closely with the PI and project-coordinator, and team members in IMCB and the pharma partner.

  • Undertake related administrative and project coordination duties as required.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • PhD in Protein Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related life sciences discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience in binding/kinetic assays, affinity maturation and/or enzyme engineering, computational protein design, sequence analysis and variant prioritization

  • Understanding of protein–protein interactions, enzyme kinetics, and developability considerations for therapeutic candidates.

  • Experience working with biologics and/or small-molecule discovery pipelines is advantageous.

  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams spanning biology, chemistry, computation, and translational science.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present scientific findings clearly.

  • 1–2+ years of postdoctoral or equivalent experience in relevant areas is a plus.

Those who are interested may apply through A*STAR portal Career - Agency for Science, Technology and Research or send their CV to Prof Jayantha Gunaratne
